  • Won Lion’s Lair (Innovation Factory) and was recognized with an investment from the Firehood Angels at Elevate Festival.
  • Honored as Scale-Up of the Year by Global Startups
  • Received distinguished nominations from the Canadian SME Small Business Awards and the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Sustainable Business categories.

Pilots & Validations

  • Successfully completed a commercial pilot for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Association at Vineland Research & Innovation Centre, funded in part by the Greenhouse Technology Network.
  • Presented pilot results at the prestigious global Canadian Greenhouse Conference in October.
  • Hosted a Demo Day in November to showcase the project to key stakeholders.
  • We also continue to supply AAFC with larvae to advance research linking BSFL and crop recovery.

IP & Funding

  • Filed the patent for the Bugs4Rent™ biodigester system and registered Frassilizer™ and Bugs4Rent™ trademarks through the ElevateIP, IPAssist, and IPON programs.
  • Closed a $460,000 pre-seed investment round, attracting prominent angel and venture capital funds. The round was initiated by Blue Ocean Angels and closed with investments from Venture Niagara and GSA Ventures, thanks to our original champions at the Niagara Falls Innovation Hub and Global Startups.
  • Secured over $300,000 in federal and industry grants in the last two years, with total non-dilutive funding further amplified by participation in innovation ecosystem programs.

Impact & Efficiency

Circular Economy
  • Demonstrated an 80% reduction in CO₂e emissions through insect biodigestion (vs. landfilling and composting), in collaboration with Mohawk College’s Centre for Climate Change (IRAP) and supported by data from our upgraded remote monitoring platform (IdeaFund).
  • Improved unit waste processing efficiency from 10 to 20 tonnes per unit per month, reduced insect biodigestion cycle time from 17 to 10 days, cut service labour by 50%, and enhanced our remote monitoring system.

Research & Innovation

Sustainability
  • Conducting ongoing testing at the Niagara Falls Innovation Hub to generate valuable data and optimize processes, enhancing efficiency for future clients.
  • Engaged in projects with leading experts critical to launching insect-based products, including collaborations with the Canadian Feed Innovation Lab and Assiniboine College Soils Lab, supported by IRAP/NRC funding.
  • Additional research partnerships include Lambton College Bioindustrial Process Research Center (Bioenterprise) and George Brown Advanced Automation (SONAMI)

Collaborate & Grow

  • Successfully completed leading accelerator programs, including GOAH (Bioenterprise), Founders Fast Track & Lion’s Lair (Innovation Factory), Trade Accelerator Program (Toronto Board of Trade), Elevate Women (The Firehood), and Soft-Landing New York (Kauffman/Cornell AgriTech).
  • Scaled total waste bio-digestion capabilities by establishing a global supply chain for neonates, leveraging strategic partnerships to enhance efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
